          Relocating to Canada

          Canada is a country located in the northernmost part of North America. With just under 35 million residents, Canada is home to many expats from the United States and all over the world. If you are relocating to Canada, iContainers can ship your personal belongings, but first you should be aware of the following.

          Prohibited and Restricted Items

          Items prohibited or restricted in shipments to Canada include Narcotics, firearms and ammunition, explosives, obscene materials, and any goods made from an endangered species or live plants.

          Shipping Personal Belongings

          Any person moving to Canada for more than 12 months may import personal belongings free of duty and taxes. Returning Canadians may ship back any of their personal items duty free as long as those items were acquired and used six months prior to the scheduled in Canada. The valuation limit is $10,000 per item, and that includes automobiles. Duty & taxes will apply to any item that exceeds that limitation.

          Customs Clearance

          When you arrive personally in Canada, you must attend customs clearance. At the point of entry you will need to submit multiple copies of two detailed lists:

          • List 1: A list of accompanying goods.

          • List 2: A list of goods to follow.

            • When the shipment arrives, a second personal declaration to Customs is required at the Customs point closest to your final destination.

            • All documentation proving ownership, possession and use of items
            • All receipts for new items being imported
            • Previous airport of US / Canada border declaration papers

            • Receipts of items purchased outside Canada (proof or ownership of minimum 6 months is required).
