Full Container (FCL) or Groupage (LCL)

When shipping a container to Dubai, you have two options: a full container load (FCL) or groupage (LCL).
Your shipping volume is one of the determinants of the most suitable choice here. If your shipment is equal to at least six standard pallets, then FCL (a full container load) is required. A twenty-foot container accommodates 10 standard pallets, and a forty-foot container can ship 22 standard pallets.
A full container load is also wise if you wish to avoid any risk of damage to your goods that could be caused by contact with others' merchandise.
If this is not a concern, you may want to opt for a less-than-container load (LCL)-a shared container, or groupage. You will pay only for the space you need with this arrangement. Consult iContainers for rates and other important information.

Ocean Freight Routes to Dubai

The port of Rashid and the port of Jebel Ali are Dubai's two major maritime ports. Both are managed by the Dubai Ports Authority.

  • Port of Rashid
  • All of the UAE's foreign trade activity goes through Port Rashid, as does much of its passenger traffic. The port is located near Dubai's primary commercial zone. Its sophisticated infrastructure has made this the most advanced seaport in the world, with the largest docking capacity. Its 102 deep-water berths offer loading and unloading for large container vessels, RORO, and general cargo.

  • Port of Jebel Ali
  • Jebel Ali is the world's largest man-made port, with 63 deep-water berths and good warehousing facilities, including a container yard of roughly 250 acres. It handles both passenger traffic and foreign trade operations. Jebel Ali handles more than eight million TEUs per year, placing it among the 10 most important commercial maritime ports in the world.

Air Freight Transportation to Dubai

Air freight may be more appropriate to your needs than ocean freight if you are working with an urgent shipment or a tight deadline. This does impose certain limitations in terms of volume and weight; consult the calculator provided by iContainers to help you decide.
