Watch this short video to understand how a telex release authorizes cargo release without requiring the consignee to present the original bill of lading at destination.

A telex release is an electronic instruction sent by a carrier’s origin office to its destination agent. It authorizes the destination agent to release cargo without requiring presentation of the original bill of lading.
It is not an electronic bill of lading, a sea waybill or a PDF copy of an original bill of lading. A document copy alone does not authorize cargo release.
“What is a telex release, and how does it work?
A telex release is an electronic instruction from a carrier’s origin office authorizing its destination agent to release cargo without requiring the consignee to present the original bill of lading.
The process generally involves:
The shipper surrendering the full set of original bills of lading.
Completion of the carrier’s requirements and applicable charges.
The origin office sending release authorization to the destination agent.
Verification of the consignee and local requirements.
Release of the cargo at destination.
A telex release can save the time and cost of couriering original documents. However, it does not replace customs clearance, destination payments or other cargo-release requirements.
A telex release is not an electronic bill of lading, sea waybill or PDF copy that automatically authorizes release.”
