One or several pallets can move internationally without filling a container. The best option depends on the route, shipment size, cargo, timing and services included in the quote. Most shippers should compare LCL ocean freight with air freight, then check whether collection, customs handling and final delivery are included.

Choose a service for your pallet

OptionConsider it whenCheck before booking
LCL ocean freightYour cargo does not require a dedicated container and can follow an ocean schedule.Consolidation and destination handling, minimum charges, sailing schedule and final delivery.
Air freightDelivery timing justifies the higher transportation cost.Chargeable weight, airport handling, customs and collection or delivery scope.
FCL ocean freightSeveral pallets or handling needs make dedicated container use worth comparing.Full container price and local charges against a complete LCL quote.

Do not select a mode from pallet count alone. A tall, heavy or non-stackable pallet can change the space, handling and price used in a quote.

What affects international pallet shipping cost?

The quote depends on origin and destination, mode, packed dimensions, gross weight, cargo type and ready date. LCL shipments can include consolidation and destination handling; air quotes can depend on the higher of actual and volumetric weight. Pickup, delivery, customs work, duties or taxes and insurance may be separate. Compare each offer against the same pickup and delivery points and review how to compare freight quotes.

Prepare the pallet details

  1. Count the pallets and record the full packed length, width and height, including the pallet, wrapping and any overhang.
  2. Weigh each loaded pallet, not just the goods or the empty pallet.
  3. Describe the commodity, number of cartons, declared value and any handling or temperature requirements.
  4. State whether the pallet can be stacked and whether collection or delivery needs special equipment.
  5. Confirm the destination's rules for wooden packaging and obtain the relevant treatment or marking evidence when required.

Use the pallet dimensions guide for a common US footprint, but measure the actual loaded unit. Check how many pallets fit in a container when comparing LCL with FCL; any illustration is a planning aid, not a guaranteed loading plan.

Documents and next step

Commercial shipments commonly need a commercial invoice, packing list and the transport document for the chosen mode. The destination and commodity may require additional declarations or permits. Match the carton count, weights and goods description across the documents and quote.

Ready to compare modes? Enter the pallet dimensions, weights, origin, destination and cargo details in the freight cost calculator. Confirm the full service scope before booking.
