What is an international maritime move?

An international maritime move is the transportation of furnitures, vehicles, and other personal belongings from one country to another via ocean freight. The transport of these household goods is done via containers that are loaded on board shipping vessels.

There are two types of international maritime moves: Door-to-port and door-to-door. At iContainers, our services begin right at your doorstep and all the way to your destination.

For door-to-port moves, our services will cover you until the destination port, where you will pick up your belongings. For door-to-door moves, we’ll deliver your belongings to your new home in the destination country.

How does a door-to-port move work?

In a door-to-port move, we’ll assist you with all the processes from picking up your belongings at your doorstep to them arriving at the destination port.

• Once you have made your reservation and set a date for your household goods to be transported, we will pick up your belongings from your doorstep.
• We’ll dismantle any furniture you deem necessary*.
• We’ll pack everything as properly as possible to ensure the safety of your belongings at sea*.
• We’ll transport your household goods to the port and handle all paperwork and documents needed for customs clearance.
• We’ll handle the maritime transport from the port of origin to the port of destination.
• Upon arriving at the port of destination, your household goods will be awaiting your collection.

Note*: These are additional services that you can opt for when making your reservation.

How does a door-to-door move work?

• When your shipment arrives at the destination port, either we or one of our agents will handle the paperwork needed at local customs.
• We’ll transport your household goods to your new home at destination and voilà, your move is complete.
